It was certainly a busy day in Oakbank today with a morning spent in quarantine. Colin, our very able vet, was here to do blood tests and feacal samples. All very glamourous but apart from a few objections fairly raised by the girls (alpacas that is!) it all went without incident.
This afternoon meant halter training and believe me Ken and I encountered some characters! Evolution (our little Grey boy) has all the bravado and bluster of Commisario on a halter. He was not a happy camper but for a young boy he certainly looked the part of a true macho! The saving grace? We are training him now and not when he really is a macho!! The prodigy, son of Sculptress and Gianmarco (both seasoned and succesful show veterans), was today's gold star pupil - he showed real intelligence and has taken to it like a duck to water - it must either be in the blood or he's living up to his name! He even let me trim his head up without complaint and now he really looks the part.
The birthing paddock has remained quiet today. Yesterday saw the arrival of a 12kg cria which the mum miraculously gave birth to unassisted and with relative ease.
