Well, it has been a shock to the system since my arrival back in the UK. Autumn has given way to a real blast of Arctic cold. The troughs have been frozen most morning and the animals sitting tight with their little feet tucked under to keep them warm! Well that is until we bring them in foot trimming. Almost all of the herd is now manicured and their winter frost suites are growing back well ready for the true onslaught of the British winter RAIN. Although not relevent to alpacas, I took this photo whilst Driving from Melbourne to Adelaide just east of a small town called Boarder Town.
Although our birthing season started late it has been a good one.The cria a growing well and in most cases are above normal weight for this time of year. There really are some quite exceptional ones that you should look at.
The bosses have now headed back to the warmer climes of Oz where they will have to endure the summer heat. I have to say that by February the idea of sun beating down on the body is a very inviting thought. Oh well it is only 4 months until the spring begins again. The cold grey drudge of the new year will be broken by the Alpaca Futurity which will be a fun packed weekend at Newbury which will herald the start of the now lengthy alpaca showing season. Why not come and join us there, it is a great event, that will only get better as the years progress.
Thats all for now, keep well.
