Consummate Professionals!

Here in Australia the hay has been brought in and another hot christmas is on the way. Bithing is progressing well with a lot of the elite lines reminding us why it is we allow them to play the diva card time and time again! Yesterday was a blindingly hot day which prevented too much activity with the herd but Embryo transfer matings were due so ever the committed, consummate professionals Cathy and I met on the yards at 6:30am to get the matings underway whilst it was still cool enough for the boys to work well. All the girls behaved beautifully, obviously having read the ET textbook! Fingers crossed the flushing goes so well!

Shearing was completed more than a week ago and the animals look comfortable and happy even on the hottest days. There is something satisying about the look of a herd once shorn - like everything being right!

This week there has been a revamping of the mating systems for this season. All the breeding females have been through the shed. All the pregnant girls were given an ultrasound. The mums and cria have been sorted in to mating groups following a stringent appraisal of this year's cria.

This week will bring more mating, cria vaccinations all rounded off nicely with the company christmas party!
