Just as Australia starts to get going after their long dry winter, the UK is beginning to slow down after a long wet summer! We have just about finished birthing now, with only 4 to go and with mating rapidly heading towards a close. We are looking forward to those long drawn out nights again, dark by 3.30pm, frozen fingers and toes on check round in the morning and mud, so much mud!!
FMD, Bluetongue, what next? Hopefully a change of government to one that actually cares about farming and its future. We are eagerly awaiting the reinstatement of the pasture where the water board have over the summer put in a large water main right through the middle of the farm so as to ease the water shortages in the Southeast, yes we do have water shortages as well in the UK especially here in the over populated South. Verity and Dawid are doing a sterling job keeping the herd safe and well, as well as keeping the travellers at bay, the pigs in the run and the Boris the cockerel from attacking young children, cars and just about anything he can get his talons into. He does though have a real penchant for mating sleeping alpacas, feed bags and any other objects that will stay still long enough to mount. Diddy and Grub who are the "Z" grade alpaca dogs, never cease to surprise me in how little they will do, no, that is not fair, Diddy (the bitch) will work all day without a break, or at least until she has a fit and has to stop where as Grub (her brother) will if he can, sit under the crush or desk and watch the work being done, how male is that! That's all for now!
