Deep frost covers the farm after a night of -5 degrees C
Christmas is over, so are the New Year celebrations, but spring is no where to be seen? That was at least until the other evening when the rain was thundering down and making the already swollen streams fuller, a lonesome Black bird was singing at the top of its little voice, telling all his friends it was time to think about breeding again! Not too dissimilar to the alpaca world in the northern hemisphere.
The fruits of ones labour over the last few years are starting to be prepared for the upcoming Futurity show at Newbury, halter training, washing the mud and grime off legs and registering the previous years cria ready for showing. If you can make it it is on the 16 to 17 Feb 2008. It promises to be a fun packed weekend. www.britishalpacafuturity.co.uk
EPC UK have recently taken delivery of some very exciting new alpacas from Oz, they are relaxing at Baydon House near Swindon where they can be viewed if you are interested in imported genetics? There is a half share in a white male Huacaya Called Neptune and a White male called Shotgun which is for sale. There are also 3 females available.
Weaning is almost on us, although the weather is less than suitable for it. We try to wean in good weather so the whole event is not too stressful for the little ones. It is though always a fun time as the newly weaned cria become more friendly as they seem to see you as a surrogate mum.
